Monday, April 15, Lincoln East’s devoted debaters were recognized for their victories that have effectively maintained over a decade-long legacy. The ceremony consisted of the presentation of a series of awards as well as recognition of the coaches’ contributions to the team. The banquet, held at Hillcrest Country Club, marked a few dramatic changes in the land of Spartan Speech and Debate. Halfway done. That is the realization that the Senior Spartan’s must come to. Half-way through their senior season, and that this is their last go around. The women’s team has had a rocky start, but have improved greatly with the help of Coach Prichard. Consistency is the main goal for the second half of the season, as the Lady Spartans have struggled at home, but accelled on the road. This past Saturday was supposed be host to the annual UNL Red-White football scrimmage. Tickets were sold for ten dollars, but were unrefundable. Once the game was cancelled due to increasingly dangerous whether, many fans were not happy to say the least. Athletic director, Tom Osborne, allowed fans to take as much free concession stand food as they liked, attempting to make up for the dissappointing series of events. East Seniors Sydney Rotthaus and Hannah Wittwer were among the thousands of Husker fans, that were slightly frustrated.

We are in the middle of Day 3 of Spirit Week, where superheroes, villains, and other colorful characters have graced the halls of East. The omnipresent Superman and Batman are mixed in with more creative choices, such as junior Mak Peterson’s Catwoman (left). Other takes on Superhero Day include Harry Potter, Perry the Platypus, Jesus, and other characters from film and television. So far, Spirit Week has been a large success, so keep showing East Spirit throughout Thursday and Friday.
