Bright and early this morning, East High School honored its graduating seniors with an annual breakfast, ceremony, and graduation rehearsal. Seniors and their parents arrived at 7:30 to gather in the packed gym and listen to opening remarks from Mr. Fleming and senior class president Emily Linefelter. This was followed by a breakfast of eggs, sausage, and fruit salad, and a presentation of various student honors and scholarship awards. Congrats to the graduates!

On Wednesday morning, May 15, a group of graduating East students gathered at senior Austyn Davis’s house for an impromptu swim after their previous swim plans in the East pool were canceled. Participants agree that this was one of the most fun and memorable events of senior year, celebrating not only their graduation but the arrival of summer!

Today is the big Powderpuff Football tournament at Seacrest! The games start at 5. It is sure to be exciting an exciting competition with two junior teams and two senior teams there to represent their grade. The four teams (Spartanettes, Taser Gang, Victorious Secret, and LEGS) will battle it out to settle the long standing question; who is better; Juniors or Seniors? Be sure to be there for this monumental event, and if nothing else, there will be free popcorn so there’s something for everyone …

Senior spirit week continues today as Way Back “When”sday. Seniors are dressed up as anything from a pioneer woman, to a girl scout and even a baby. Others dressed from the 80′s, 70′s, or 60′s or re-lived their middle school days. This spirit day allowed seniors to be creative and choose their favorite time period to remember!

Twelve Belmont Elementary students started their school day giving high fives to Martin Spartan. The 4th-grade students, members of the leadership program called TRACKS, spent the day at East as a final activity for the program.
After getting their own student IDs, the students spent the day touring the school, visiting classes (including Pottery, Science and Weight Training), eating lunch with the Spartans, being interviewed for this story and spending time with the Student Council. Yesterday marked the first day of May and instead of viewing flowers Nebraskans were privileged with the sight of slush and snow. Not surprisingly, this is the first time it has snowed in May since 1911. Enjoy the weather while it lasts- just make sure your shoes are waterproof!
