Staff that have been at Southwest all 10 years received a gift at the celebration event. Here social studies Lisa Bales and associate principal Keri Applebee share a moment on stage after getting their gift.

Southwest staff, past and present,  were invited to a gala celebration of the 10 years the school has now been open. The May 4 dinner event was held at Wilderness Ridge Lodge and over 100 people came.

Speakers included associate superintendent of instruction  Dr. Marilyn Moore who is retiring at the end of this year, and Sara Landgren Skretta who was an associate principal when Southwest first opened. Drama teacher Bob Henrichs acted as emcee and students from theatre of years past presented a couple of songs from past musicals. These songs will also be performed at Encore 5 May 23-25.

A video was also shown noting first principal Jerry Wilks vision in overseeing the building  and direction Southwest High School would take as the first Lincoln school to use block scheduling. Wilks served as principal the first five years.

Rob Slauson, who has served as principal the last five years, presented the 10-year anniversary gifts to staff members in attendance who had been at the school all 10 years. The gift was a personally engraved glass paper weight commemorating the 10 years.
